KUMPUL has officially launched Tech Indonesia Advocates (TIA) on March 10, 2025 as part of the Global Tech Advocates (GTA) community, the world’s largest independent grassroots tech network. The announcement took place at the Executive Lab Forum in Jakarta, organized by KUMPUL, bringing together leaders from government, business, and civil society.
Indonesia’s Digital Economy Potential
Indonesia’s digital economy is projected to reach USD 360 billion by 2030. As of January 2024, the country recorded an internet penetration rate of 79.5 percent, with more than 212 million active internet users.
Despite this growth, 93.4 million Indonesians still lack access to adequate digital infrastructure. Internet usage also remains largely centered on social media rather than deep-tech skills development, slowing innovation and creating challenges for startups that seek to expand globally.
Tech Indonesia Advocates is designed to address this gap by fostering cross-border collaboration, expanding access to international opportunities, and strengthening Indonesia’s competitiveness in the global digital economy.
Leadership and Ecosystem Impact
Tech Indonesia Advocates (TIA) will be led by Faye Wongso as Group Lead, with Mega Prawita and Ester Widya as Advocates. As Chairperson of KUMPUL, Faye has forged partnerships with more than 170 organizations and 340 industry leaders, directly supporting 57,000 startups and 82,000 MSMEs across Indonesia. Over her 20 years of experience in nonprofits, international development, and entrepreneurship, she has driven digital transformation and ecosystem growth both in Indonesia and internationally.
Through programs such as Baparekraf ScaleUp Champions, SheHacks, InnovateHer, and Bale Berdaya, she has helped accelerate the growth of Indonesia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
Global Collaboration Through GTA
Global Tech Advocates is a network of more than 40,000 members across six continents and 41 of the world’s fastest-growing tech hubs. Tech Indonesia Advocates becomes the latest addition, following KUMPUL’s appointment to represent Indonesia at the Indonesia Investment Forum in London on November 22, 2024.
At the Executive Lab Forum, the launch of TIA was accompanied by discussions on three pressing issues shaping the tech landscape: startup resilience, AI ethics, and community-driven innovation.
Russ Shaw CBE, Founder of Global Tech Advocates, said:
“The launch of Tech Indonesia Advocates is a milestone for Indonesia’s tech sector, expanding connections beyond Jakarta to strengthen the entire digital economy. TIA opens valuable opportunities for local entrepreneurs to engage with a global network, fostering collaboration and innovation across the region.”
A Platform for Indonesia’s Global Tech Ambition
Faye Wongso, Group Lead of Tech Indonesia Advocates, stated:
“Technology drives progress, but connections create impact. Tech Indonesia Advocates bridges Indonesia’s tech ecosystem to the world, amplifying innovation through global partnerships. Our mission is to help companies connect, scale, and thrive through advocacy and cross-sector collaboration.”
By leveraging global connections through GTA, Tech Indonesia Advocates aims to position Indonesia not only as a fast-growing digital market but also as an influential player in the global tech ecosystem.
