Bale Berdaya Festival, a Stage for Sumbawan MSMEs Revival

Dozens of MSME booths from Bale Berdaya participants lined neatly at Lapangan Pahlawan Sumbawa, marking the grand celebration of the Bale Berdaya Festival 2025. The festival was held as the culmination of two years of Bale Berdaya programs, a collaboration between one of Indonesia’s largest copper and gold mining companies, PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN), and KUMPUL. This event served as a platform to showcase the works and flagship products of Bale Berdaya’s MSME participants, as well as a celebration of their journey and achievements throughout the program.

Since 2024, more than 100 MSME players from seven districts in Sumbawa Regency, Sumbawa Besar, Ropang, Lunyuk, Lantung, Lenangguar, Moyo Hulu, and Orong Telu, have received mentoring, training, and intensive coaching through this program. The supported sectors include culinary, coffee, wild honey, handicrafts, and agriculture. With a community-based approach and grounded in real needs, Bale Berdaya participants have grown more confident in reaching wider markets.

Inclusive Spirit in a People’s Festival

Carrying the spirit of solidarity, independence, and local economic growth, the festival radiated inclusivity rooted in community cooperation, while also enlivening the lead-up to Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations on August 17. The event series began with a fun walk joined by hundreds of Sumbawa Besar residents, followed by mass aerobics, traditional competitions, and local art performances.

The highlight was the opportunity for Bale Berdaya MSMEs to introduce their products and business models to the public, financial institutions, prospective investors, and strategic policymakers. Through this stage, they could build networks, attract potential partners, and unlock wider collaboration opportunities.

The festival also offered educational sessions such as weaving workshops, digital marketing training, and “Bale Talks” featuring:

  • Dimas Purnama (Community Development Manager, AMMAN)
  • Faye Wongso (Chairperson of KUMPUL)
  • Dr. Budi Prasetiyo, S.Sos., M.AP (Regional Secretary of Sumbawa Regency)
  • Andanu Prasetyo (CEO & Founder of Toko Kopi Tuku)
  • Septia Erianty (Founder & CEO of Oganic Skincare)

Moderated by Rama Hidayat (Assistant Manager Market, Southeast Asia, Indonesia AVPN), the panel discussed “Sumbawa’s MSMEs as Pillars of Indonesia’s Economic Drivers”, covering challenges, opportunities, and strategies to strengthen MSMEs both locally and nationally.

Collaboration for a Sustainable Ecosystem

The Bale Berdaya program is built on cross-sector collaboration: the Sumbawa Regency government, private sector, ecosystem enablers, banks, entrepreneurial communities, and the digital industry working together to create a supportive environment for local MSME growth. Dozens of policymakers, Bale Berdaya expert mentors, and communities gathered to witness the outcomes of this sustainable collaboration.

The festival was further enlivened by the presence of well-known local influencers such as @mangamarjuna, @semarassia, and @mascmul, who engaged directly with participants and visitors.

In his remarks, Sumbawa Regent, Ir. H. Syarafuddin Jarot, MP, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration behind Bale Berdaya, which has brought tangible impacts to local MSMEs:

“The Bale Berdaya concept aligns with the government’s plans, so this collaboration flows naturally. We are confident that with this collaboration, Sumbawa’s MSMEs will continue to grow from local players to national and even global competitors. The government will also expand its implementation to other districts so that the progress of Sumbawa’s MSMEs can accelerate further.”

Priyo Pramono, Vice President of Social Impact at AMMAN, emphasized that Bale Berdaya represents the success of a community-based empowerment model:

“Bale Berdaya shows that strengthening MSMEs brings multiplied benefits. We’ve seen Sumbawa’s entrepreneurs improve business management and enhance product quality and competitiveness when provided with the right mentoring support. AMMAN is committed to sustaining this process.”

Echoing this, Faye Wongso, Founder & Chairperson of KUMPUL, highlighted that the strength of Sumbawa’s MSMEs lies not only in product quality but also in their ability to build networks and adapt to new opportunities:

“Building MSMEs means building an ecosystem that strengthens one another, from knowledge and skills, to sustainable business models, to strategic cross-sector connections. Bale Berdaya proves that when entrepreneurs, communities, the private sector, and government move together, local MSMEs don’t just survive; they level up, penetrating national and even global markets. Sumbawa has immense potential, and through collaborations like this, we are opening pathways for that potential to become a real economic force for Indonesia.”

The success of Bale Berdaya as a catalyst for local economic growth in Sumbawa Regency stems from an ecosystem that values education, adapts to technological developments, and blends with business networking to drive local economic ecosystems forward and expand access to broader markets.
