Behind the natural beauty of Sumbawa lies an emerging force: local MSMEs that are now stepping onto the national stage. The year 2024 marked a turning point with the launch of the Bale Berdaya program, a strategic collaboration between PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMMAN) and KUMPUL, designed to drive sustainable local economic growth. More than 100 MSMEs across seven districts – Sumbawa, Lantung, Lenangguar, Lunyuk, Moyo Hulu, Orong Telu, and Ropang – have experienced tangible results from the program.
From Struggle to Breakthrough
After participating in Bale Berdaya in 2024, the average turnover of participants increased by 100.2 percent. In addition, many businesses succeeded in obtaining legal permits such as Business Identification Numbers (NIB) and Halal Certification. These milestones have motivated MSMEs to expand their reach into broader markets.
Support for the program came from many stakeholders, including the Regent of Sumbawa, Ir. H. Syarafuddin Jarot, MP. “I truly appreciate the invitation to attend the exhibition of MSMEs supported by AMMAN and KUMPUL through Bale Berdaya. MSME development is an essential part of my vision and the government’s priority programs. Bale Berdaya has taken concrete steps toward realizing this goal, with MSME products that have the potential to become icons of Sumbawa. The main challenges for MSMEs here are access to capital, technology, business sustainability, and marketing, where Bale Berdaya has provided significant guidance,” he said.
Jarot added, “The government is committed to supporting MSME empowerment efforts carried out by Bale Berdaya, particularly in bridging access to capital and markets. MSME products will be prioritized in government events, both for consumption and as souvenirs.”
From Local to National: 2025 Plans

Building on the success of 2024, Bale Berdaya has now entered its next phase. In 2025, the program will focus on building and strengthening partnerships, creating market access opportunities, and expanding funding channels so that Sumbawa’s leading MSMEs can scale to the national, even international, level.
This year, more than 100 local entrepreneurs from various sectors, ranging from artisans to farmers, are joining the program to strengthen Sumbawa’s independent and sustainable economy. Six national-level mentors and investors will guide the participants. The program will also involve local government, corporations, startups, and microfinance institutions working hand in hand for its success.
“Bale Berdaya is an MSME development program initiated by AMMAN as part of its Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM). The PPM focuses on supporting entrepreneurship development in Sumbawa so that small businesses can grow into medium-sized enterprises. We hope that Sumbawa MSMEs in Bale Berdaya will continue to grow independently and become drivers of both the local and national economy,” said AMMAN’s Vice President of Social Impact, Priyo Pramono.
Over the next five months, Bale Berdaya participants will be supported by Residence Buddies, local youth who are specially trained to accompany MSME growth in each district. The program is further strengthened by intensive mentoring from experienced industry experts, providing best practices in developing strong business strategies. By the time the MSME Exhibition and Business Matching event takes place in August 2025, participants will be prepared to showcase and promote their products and business models.
“Together with AMMAN, we are committed to continuously supporting Sumbawa’s leading MSMEs through comprehensive mentoring and broader network access. With this collaboration, we believe MSMEs in Sumbawa can advance further, even reaching national and international markets,” said Mega Prawita, Managing Director of KUMPUL.
Launching Bale Berdaya 2025
The official launch of Bale Berdaya 2025 was marked by the Bale Berdaya Temu Sinergi event, held at the Sumbawa Regent’s Office on March 20, 2025. The event provided a space for all stakeholders to meet, strengthen relationships, and build strategic collaborations.
Participants joined workshops on digital marketing strategies and business financial management, were introduced to experienced mentors from different fields, and shared knowledge through Bale Talks sessions that explored topics such as legal literacy, access to funding, and business development strategies.
The event was attended by multiple stakeholders and partners committed to supporting MSME growth in Sumbawa Regency. One of Indonesia’s largest marketplaces, TikTok Shop by Tokopedia, recognized the potential of Sumbawa’s leading MSMEs and joined the program by adding training sessions focused on online marketing and sales through its local business empowerment initiative.
“TikTok Shop by Tokopedia greatly appreciates and supports AMMAN’s Bale Berdaya program, which aligns with our mission to increase educational access, open economic opportunities, and help MSMEs – in this case, in Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara – thrive in the digital era,” said Vonny Susamto, Director of Tokopedia and TikTok E-commerce.
Vonny added, “This program includes onboarding MSMEs to TikTok Shop and providing comprehensive online business development training. MSMEs contribute significantly to Indonesia’s GDP, accounting for more than 60 percent. To further strengthen their role in the national economy, we will continue collaborating with strategic partners through initiatives such as Bale Berdaya with AMMAN to drive MSME progress and digital economic growth.”
The strong support from multiple stakeholders and the determination of participants demonstrate the need to sustain and expand programs like Bale Berdaya. It is a clear example that goodwill, when combined with collaboration and proper execution, can create real impact.
